One of the top headset brands is Astro and as a result, a lot of you are wondering about compatibility. Afterall, we’re talking premium headsets and just because the PS3 is drifting off into the sunset doesn’t mean the life of your headset is over. Far from it in fact. One this has been clear to me. Astro have first class support. Upon the launch date of November 15th in North America, they were on the spot with firmware updates to their headsets to ensure compatibility. Beyond that, their forums have become another support avenue as people with issues are able to post and support has been dealing with everyone on a case by case basis. I strongly suggest that if you have issues or questions, go to their forums and check out their current support threads for the A50 headset.

Astro A30 and A40

  • Before plugging in your A30 headset, download and install the PlayStation 4 System Update 1.50. Ensure that you can log into the PlayStation Network to confirm your console has been updated to V1.50. If you’re unsure how to update the system software, see the official guide here.
  • Once the PS4 upgrade (V1.50) has been completed, first connect the included optical cable from the optical input on the MixAmp Pro to the optical output on the back of the PS4, next Connect the included USB to USB-Mini cable from the USB input on the MixAmp Pro to one of the USB ports on the front of the PS4, and lastly connect the headset to the headset port on the front of the MixAmp Pro.
  • Next, you will need to configure your PS4. First, on the PlayStation Dynamic Menu, go to Settings > Sound and Screen > Audio Output Settings > Primary Output Port > Digital Out (Optical) and then select Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch followed by okay, next, under Audio Output Settings once again, select Output to Headphones and ensure Chat Audio is selected and not All Audio, and lastly, under Audio Output Settings once more, select Audio Format (Priority) and change this from Linear PCM to Bitstream (Dolby). Anything else selected might cause the loss of surround sound or audio altogether.
  • If you are unclear or are still having issues, I highly recommend that you visit the official Astro Gaming forum support thread here.

Hi Astro,I own a pair of the wired Astro A30s and I have followed all these steps in order to use them with my PS4.Upon entering a game, the other players complain that my mic is all static and I cannot communicate clearly with them.On my previous console, which was an Xbox 360,I had no problems communicating. Please help me.Thanks.
